Proudly celebrating over 60 years in business, 2016 marks new changes and opportunities for Buquet Distributing Co., Inc. Founded in November 1953, James J. Buquet, Jr. established the company along with his father; James J. Buquet, Sr. Today, the business ownership has successfully been transferred to the third generation. J.J. Buquet III, serving as President, and sisters, Andrée Buquet-Casey and Michelle Buquet, are equal partners of the enterprise. “We have always been a tight knit family. Through the years, many cousins and spouses have worked for the company. It is exciting to see this trend continue as the fourth generation begins to work for and learn the industry,” stated Casey.

The company began with humble beginnings. “Dad operated out of the back of a warehouse with two trucks and three employees; Charlie Boudreaux, Joe Ward and himself. He would often tell us how one truck ran and the other he would use for parts. Dad and Cousin Charlie would love to reminisce on the ‘good ole days’ when their advertising campaign consisted of dropping empty Budweiser beer cans off in front of establishments in hopes of creating an interest in purchasing the new beer on the bayou,” chuckled Buquet. “Of course we would never do that today.”

Buquet Distributing operates out of a recently completed new facility with over 90,000 square feet of warehouse space and 15,000 square feet of office. The company employs 80 full time personnel, providing customer services to nearly 1000 on and off premise accounts in the Tri-Parish area. Sixty years ago the company represented two Anheuser-Busch brands, Budweiser and Michelob. Today Buquet Distributing wholesales over 250 different brands of beer, wine, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages.
